You will not be able to stop eating these delicious addicting baked neck bones! So melt in your mouth tender and very filling too. It is best to enjoy neck bones while having dinner with friends and family. You will be having hard time to keep your hands clean while picking meat of the bone and savoring every bite. But its oh so worth it!
How to make baked pork neck bones
Start with preheating the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Now its time to open our pork neck bones package.
Wash them very well with the cold running water. Neck bones may have lots of tiny bone pieces, you will need to pick and wash them off as much as possible. Also if you see extra fat, trim it. Don't trim all of it though, it adds tenderness and flavor to the meat.
Season bones with salt, pepper and paprika and mix with BBQ sauce. Use your favorite brand of the sauce. I tried this recipe with Korean BBQ sauce before as well as with Sweet Baby Rays, it all came out equally delicious. Set neck bones aside to marinate.
Meanwhile chop or slice onions. Yellow onions work best in this baked neck bones recipe. Lay bottom of the baking dish with onions. Mince garlic and add on top. Add sliced or chopped bell peppers on top. I used yellow bell pepper, feel free to use any other colored pepper of your choice.
Place pork on top and cover it with even more onions and garlic. Meat while cooking will absorb garlic and onion juices and will become extra delicious.
Tightly cover baking dish with foil and place in the oven. Bake for about 2 hours. After one hour you can start checking pork for tenderness. I cooked mine for about two hours and than i broiled bones for another 5 minutes.
Broiling is optional but it definitely adds some color to your dish. Top cooked neck bones with some chopped green onions or cilantro. Or parsley if you want.
Where to buy
I never had a problem finding neck bones in the store. My local Walmart sells it in the refrigerated meat isle. Right where other pork cuts are.
Sometimes stores sell it in the freezer isle. But if you still have no luck finding it, try to search online for pork neck bones. If bought online, pork usually comes rock frozen and you will need to thaw it before cooking.

Can I make it with beef neck bones
Yes you can. Follow same instructions from the recipe and cook in in the pot low and slow. Beef will need about the same time to get tender and juicy. Beef bones tend to have less meat and more bones on them though. But still delicious.
Recipes tips and tricks
- Cover the dish tightly with the foil. Otherwise top pieces will get dry during cooking.
- If you want to bake vegetables at the same time you can. Add baby potatoes, whole and unpeeled, to pork neck bones before baking. They will hold the shape and will not turn in to mush, just make sure not to peel potatoes.
- Take your time washing bones. Neck bones has lots of tiny bones that need to be rinsed off before cooking.
- Hot sauce is something you really want to add to this dish. It sparks flavors and make the dish even more comforting and flavorful. The only reason i didn't add any because i shared the dish with my little kids. They don't like spicy food.
Side dishes
Drippings from this dish are delicious and you don't want to waste them. Make white rice and cover it with pork drippings and place pork necks on top. So good!
Mashed potatoes that are creamy and buttery are so delicious with baked neck bones. Add chopped green onions on top for freshness and crunch.
Brussels sprouts or green beans will totally complete the dish and it will worth even a Holiday dinner. Cauliflower mashed potatoes is a great low carb side dish and is great with pork also.
Leftovers
This recipe makes lots of baked neck bones and you may have some leftovers. Store food in an air tight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. If you actually have lots of leftovers, you may consider covering the baking dish with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge this way. Less dishes to clean!
Reheat in a microwave or in the oven. Don't forget to take the wrap off or it will melt.
You can freeze cooked pork neck bones. Its important to use a freezer safe ziplock bag or a container for this task to prevent freezer burn. Store it for 4 months or more. If you will vacuum seal it, it can be stored for up to 1 year easily.
