Most frozen salmon comes out watery because people fight the ice, but the trick with Ninja Crispi frozen salmon is to cook it a few minutes before you season it, so the surface thaws just enough for the seasoning to grab on. Do that and it goes straight from the freezer to a tender, flaky dinner, with asparagus roasting in the bottom layer at the same time.

Quick navigation
The part most frozen-salmon recipes skip is the two-level setup, and it is what makes this one dinner instead of two. The salmon sits up on the crisper plate while the asparagus roasts underneath and catches every drip, so the fish and the vegetable actually taste like they were cooked together.
This step-by-step Ninja Crispi frozen salmon recipe shows you how to cook it from frozen and get the asparagus perfectly tender. If you have fresh fish on hand, my Ninja Crispi salmon and Ninja Crispi mahi mahi use the same method.
This is the dinner for the nights nothing got thawed. Frozen fillets, a few pantry seasonings, and about 20 minutes, and no one can tell it started as a brick from the freezer.
My take on this recipe
This is my back-pocket dinner for the nights I did not plan ahead. The trick I learned is to give the frozen salmon a few minutes alone first, which thaws the surface just enough that the seasoning actually sticks.
Then the asparagus goes in the bottom layer and soaks up all the salmon drippings while it roasts, so it tastes like way more effort than it is. Cooking from frozen used to scare me, but the Crispi makes it honestly foolproof.
Why cook salmon from frozen
It is the ultimate no-planning dinner. There is no waiting for fish to thaw, so you can go from freezer to plate in about 20 minutes, which makes salmon a realistic weeknight option instead of a someday one.
It is also forgiving. Frozen salmon holds together well and stays moist, and because the whole meal cooks in one container, there is almost no cleanup. You get a healthy, protein-packed dinner with a vegetable built right in.

How the two-level setup works
The Ninja Crispi lets you cook on two levels, and that is the secret to this one-and-done meal. The salmon sits up on the crisper plate, while the asparagus goes in the bottom layer underneath.
As the salmon cooks, its juices and seasoning drip down onto the asparagus, flavoring it as it roasts. Everything finishes at the same time, so you lift out a full dinner, fish and a vegetable, from a single container.
Ingredients you will need
A few simple things turn frozen fillets into dinner.
- Frozen salmon fillets, cooked straight from the freezer.
- Asparagus, trimmed, for the bottom layer.
- Olive oil, to help both crisp and brown.
- Garlic powder, salt, and pepper, for simple savory flavor.
- Lemon, for brightness, plus any sauce you like.
Exact amounts and cooking instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Ways to season the salmon
Frozen salmon is a blank canvas, so season it however you like once the surface has thawed.
- Simple garlic, salt, pepper, and lemon
- A brush of teriyaki, Thai chili, or BBQ sauce
- Honey garlic or a maple glaze
- Lemon pepper or Cajun seasoning
- Everything bagel seasoning
- A sprinkle of fresh dill or parsley to finish
Tips for the best frozen salmon
Give it a head start. Cook the salmon a few minutes before seasoning so the surface thaws and the seasoning sticks.
Would you like to save this?
Pat off the ice. Blot away any surface ice or moisture once it thaws a bit, so the salmon browns instead of steams.
Do not overcook. Pull the salmon at 145°F, when it flakes easily, so it stays moist and tender.
Use the bottom layer. Let the asparagus roast below the salmon so it catches the drippings. New to your Crispi? See my complete Ninja Crispi guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can you cook frozen salmon in the Ninja Crispi?
Yes, and it is one of the easiest ways to do it. Cook it straight from frozen, giving it a few minutes to thaw the surface before seasoning, then finish until it reaches 145°F.
Do I need to thaw the salmon first?
No. This recipe is designed for frozen fillets. Thawing is not needed, which makes it a perfect last-minute dinner.
How do I know when salmon is done?
It flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F at the thickest part. Pull it right away so it stays moist.
Why is my frozen salmon watery?
Frozen fish releases moisture as it thaws. Cooking it a few minutes first and patting off the surface ice helps it brown instead of steam.
Can I use other vegetables in the bottom layer?
Yes. Green beans, broccoli, or sliced zucchini all work well in the bottom layer; adjust the timing so they finish with the salmon.

Storing and reheating
Store leftover salmon and asparagus in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat gently on the Recrisp or Air Fry setting for a few minutes, just until warm, so the salmon does not dry out. Avoid the microwave, which can make it rubbery.
