If you ever being to Indian restaurants here in US you probably tried their mango lassi. Yummy, creamy and so refreshing! This pineapple mango lassi is as delicious but with some pineapple notes in it. Kids love it and I make it sometimes for them for breakfast before school.
Pineapple along with mango are main ingredients in this lassi recipe.
Mango. Mango is the most popular ingredient in lassi here in US. From what i know, mango lassi is not even as popular in India as it is in here.
Yogurt. Use a plain full fat yogurt for this pineapple mango lassi. Non fat or reduced fat is also ok but lassi will not be as creamy.
Water. Water is used to thin lassi. You can use milk instead.
Sugar. A little bit of sugar is added if the fruit used are not perfectly ripe or you just want lassi to be more sweet
Cardamom. Cardamom gives lassi that authentic flavor.
Ice cubes. If using fresh fruit you may want to add come ice cubes to cool lassi. Do not add any ice if using frozen fruit.
How to make pineapple mango lassi
This recipe is as a simple as making a smoothie. Add yogurt in to your blender first. Since we are using frozen fruit or ice it’s important to add liquid to the blender first. After yogurt add you fruit. I used frozen pineapple and frozen mango.
If mangoes are in season it will be great to add fresh fruit. Same with pineapple, if you get a ripe one use it. We will need about a cup each.
Water is getting added along with the fruit. It will thin lassi so its not that thick. Add cardamom (this step is optional, more authentic but if you don’t like the taste of cardamom do not add it). Close the lid on your blender and blend until smooth. The consistency you are looking for is like a pancake batter, slightly thick but still pourable after its been blended.
Pour into a tall glass or jar, you can decorate the cup with more mango or pineapple pieces. Lassi should be thick enough to not let those fruit sink. Just don’t add too much!
Frequently asked questions
Lassi is a sweet drink and tastes almost like a fruit blended yogurt which is basically what it is. Lassi though suppose to be a little sour from the plain yogurt, when blended with real fruit creates an amazing flavor.
Lassi is delcious when made with other fruit and berries as well. Try strawberry lassi, mint lassi, blueberry, banana or even chocolate and salty lassi.
If using caned pineapple, do not add any extra sugar to the blender. Canned pineapple is very sweet and you don’t want to over sweeten your drink.
Yes, any type of blender will work in this pineapple mango lassi recipe.
Yes you can. Just maybe add a little bit more water to the blender since Greek yogurt is thicker that the regular yogurt.
I like to store lassi leftovers just in the fridge for couple days ( in the cup). Make sure not to store them right in the blender, otherwise the sides will dry out and it will be very hard to wash. Do not freeze.
