Recipe ingredients
Ground beef. Lean is best for a Ninja Foodi taco soup that is flavorful without being heavy or greasy. Can also be ground turkey or chicken, but I recommend dark meat for the most flavor.
Taco seasoning. Mild, medium, or spicy - choose whatever level of heat you prefer.
Garlic powder. Classic spice for adding great umami flavor.
Dried oregano. A bold and earthy spice popular in savory cooking.
Canned diced tomatoes. Zesty tomato really brings Tex-Mex flavor to the soup.
Canned corn. Adds a great bit of sweetness that balances the spices.
Canned black beans and kidney beans. This combination of healthy, hearty beans is sure to satisfy!
Chicken broth. Enhances the meaty and savory taste of the soup.
Olive oil. A terrific high heat oil to sautƩ with.
How to make Ninja Foodi taco soup
If your ground beef is frozen, thaw it before cooking. Turn SAUTE button on your Ninja Foodi and brown the beef for about 5 minutes. Add all the spices and mix well.
Now, one by one add all other ingredients like corn, black beans, kidney beans, diced tomatoes and chicken or beef broth. Stir well and close and lock the lid.

Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes. Quick release the pressure once its cooked. Serve taco soup with lime wedges, avocado pieces, shredded cheese and sour cream. Delicious!
What is the difference between taco soup and tortilla soup
Tortilla soup is traditionally more thin and broth-like, and is made with cooked shredded chicken. It is served with whole tortilla chips or strips, either on the side or right in the soup.
Taco soup, however, uses ground beef and is slightly thicker. We make our recipe to have a consistency that closely resembles a meaty chili or stew, with chicken broth base and tomatoes, corn, and beans.
Can I make this soup in instant pot or pressure cooker
Yes! Ninja Foodi taco soup is also an Instant Pot or other pressure cooker recipe.
Frequently asked questions
Swap ground beef with ground chicken thigh meat, or chopped chicken breasts or thighs. I prefer chicken thighs to breasts because the thighs have more fat and therefore more flavor.
You certainly can. Omit the meat and add an extra can of either kidney or black beans; sub chicken broth with vegetable broth. In fact, with these substitutions this easily becomes a vegan Ninja Foodi taco soup recipe!
Yes, the soup is naturally gluten-free! Enjoy with your favorite corn tortilla chips (most are already gluten-free!) for a complete GF-friendly meal.
Yes, and this is a great recipe to prepare as a large batch. You need a large 8 quart Ninja Foodi or other pressure cooker. Then simply double the ingredients and keep the cook time the same. But note: You might need to work in batches to evenly brown the ground beef.
Freeze homemade taco soup for up to 3 months. First cool the soup completely, then transfer to a freezer-safe airtight container. Wrap the container in a layer of aluminum foil for the most protection from freezer burn.
Recipe variations and substitutions
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or ground pork.
- Change the beans with your favorite beans like pinto beans, white beans or navy beans. You can even use chickpeas if you want.

- Chicken broth can be substituted with beef or vegetable broth. Or just use plain water. Or use 1 teaspoon of chicken or beef bullion to one cup of water to create a broth.
