Lemon sorbet in the Ninja Creami ice cream maker is a wonderful frozen dessert. It is healthier than traditional ice cream but just as tasty! This lemon sorbet recipe is made with water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and brown sugar for a touch of sweetness.
It is the perfect blend of sweetness and tanginess. Because this recipe uses fresh lemon juice it has a bright lemon flavor that isn't artificial tasting or overpowering. Also try my Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream and Ninja Creami banana ice cream. So easy and delicious!
On top of tasting amazing homemade lemon sorbet is dairy-free and egg free, so it's an ideal dessert to serve at any summer party or whenever you are craving a healthy treat! It's perfect if you are a lemon lover and are looking for an alternative to ice cream to serve to your kids during the summertime!
Recipe ingredients
Warm water. Use warm water so the sugar will melt faster.
Lemon juice. Fresh lemon juice will have a brighter citrus flavor than bottled. Look for large lemons with thin, smooth skin because they will be juicer, and avoid lemons with rough skin because they usually have more pulp than juice in them.
Brown sugar. Gives a rich but light sweetness to this lemon sorbet.
How to make Ninja Creami lemon sorbet
Prepare your ingredients. For this recipe you will need only lemon juice, warm water and brown or white sugar. I like to use brown sugar because it gives pretty color to the sorbet and extra flavor.
Add warm water, juice and sugar in to the blender and blend for 10 seconds. Optionally you can just stir it very well instead of blending. Pour the mixture in to prepared Ninja Creami plastic pint cup. Freeze for 24 hours on a leveled surface on the freezer.
Next day, place the pint cup in to the Ninja Creami, lock the lid and push on Sorbet button. For creamy and not crumbly sorbet you will need to re-spin once or twice. Enjoy!
What is sorbet
Sorbet is simply a frozen dessert made of water, sugar, and the fruit of your choice. Because it doesn't contain any dairy, it is a great dessert to serve if you or your family are dairy-free, instead of traditional ice cream.
You can blend fresh fruit to make a fruity or berry sorbet or keep it simple like in this lemon sorbet recipe and use only fresh lemon juice for an intense lemon flavor.
Substitutions
Sugar. Use regular white sugar or coconut sugar instead.
Would you like to save this?
Lemon juice. Use 100% pure bottled lemon juice instead of fresh if you like.
Variations
Lemon zest. You can add 1 teaspoon of grated lemon zest to increase the lemon flavor.
Fruit juices. Use a combination of lemon and lime juice or simply orange juice to create other refreshing flavors of homemade sorbet.
Lemon blueberry sorbet. Add a handful of blended blueberries to the lemon mixture before freezing to give this recipe a fruity flavor and lovely color.
Strawberry lemon sorbet. Use blended fresh or frozen strawberries to make this sorbet taste like strawberry lemonade!
Make it in a blender. If you don't have a Ninja Creami Ice Cream machine you can make lemon sorbet using any high-speed blender. Add ice cubes, lemon juice, and sugar to a blender then blend until the mixture is smooth and frosty.
Frequently asked questions
Both are frozen fruit desserts, but the biggest difference between sherbet and sorbet is that sherbet is made with dairy and sorbet isn't.
Yes, sorbet is a healthier alternative to ice cream because it is made without milk, eggs, and cream. It also contains much less sugar than traditional ice cream recipes.
Lemon sorbet is made of water, fresh lemon juice, and sugar. You can also add grated lemon zest if you want to increase the lemon flavor.
Egg whites are sometimes added to sorbet recipes to give them a thicker, creamier texture similar to ice cream.
If your homemade sorbet is icy you probably didn't add enough sweetener. Sugar or some type of sweetener helps the water in the sorbet from forming large ice crystals which can cause your sorbet to be icy instead of smooth.
To avoid a crumbly sorbet try adjusting your freezer settings, leaving your sorbet on the counter for a few minutes before scooping and serving, or running it through the RE-SPIN setting on your Ninja Creami.
Storage instructions
You can double the recipe and pour the mixture in to two pint size containers. Use one in 24 hours and keep another one for later use. If you have any Ninja Creami lemon sorbet leftovers, just smooth the sorbet on top as much as possible, place the lid on the jar and place it in the freezer.
Before enjoying it again, just let sit on the counter for 3-5 minutes to thaw for a bit. You can re-spin it if you feel like it needs it. I always re-spin for a better, creamier texture! Sorbet in general is not very creamy but after couple spins the texture is great!
