This easy recipe is quick to put together in just a few minutes using only two ingredients - canned crescent rolls dough and whole turkey sausage links. They can be easily customized with different toppings or served with your favorite sauces and dips.
Recipe Ingredients
Turkey sausage links. Use your favorite brand. If using frozen make sure to thaw them completely before baking so everything cooks evenly.
Crescent rolls dough. Any canned crescent dough will work for this recipe.
How to make turkey pigs in the blanket
First choose what sausages you will be using. It could be little turkey smokies, turkey franks or even nice long turkey sausage, just cut them in a few pieces.
I chose to use breakfast turkey links ( 10 pieces in the pack). Itās a pack of precooked little sausages that come frozen. Thaw them in the fridge overnight or on the counter for couple hours. Make sure that the links are completely defrosted.
For the dough we will use crescent roll of any of your favorite brand. Just pop the package open and cut each triangle in half. Roll links in to the dough triangles and place on the baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes or until golden in color.
How to avoid soggy crescent rolls
- Dry the sausages. Too much moisture on the sausages can cause the crescent dough to be soft and soggy when baked. To avoid this, simply pat the sausages with a paper towel before wrapping them with the pastry dough.
- Don't crowd the pan. Make sure to use a large enough baking dish that can hold the sausages without them being too crowded. If placed too close together they can steam which can lead to a soggy pastry crust.

Substitutions
- Switch up the meat. This recipe uses turkey sausage links, but feel free to use smoked turkey sausage. Pork or beef sausages or even hot dogs would also taste amazing. Just make sure you are using fully-cooked meat for this recipe.
- Use frozen puff pastry dough. It is very flaky and buttery and pairs well with the juicy sausage. Allow the dough to thaw just enough so you can wrap it around the sausages.
Variations
- Make them into minis! Use mini sausages or cut the whole links in half or into thirds to make mini pigs in a blanket. You'll also need to cut the crescent dough into fourths, then wrap it as usual. They make a great appetizer for parties or holidays.
- Add cheese. Sprinkle a little bit of shredded cheddar cheese onto the sausages before wrapping them with the pastry dough.
- Add toppings. Before baking, you can sprinkle each one with toasted sesame seeds, poppy seeds, Italian seasoning, or grated parmesan cheese for more flavor and texture.
- Make them into breakfast bites. Wrap the crescent dough around breakfast sausages then serve with maple syrup or honey for breakfast!
