I am that person who eats all kinds of offal meat. I think its delicious, nutritious and very underrated. Today we will be cooking chicken hearts in air fryer.
How to make air fryer chicken hearts
First wash your chicken hearts. If they are frozen, defrost them. The best way to thaw chicken hearts is in the fridge overnight. You also can leave chicken on the counter for a few hours or dip the package in to the cold water. It will help to thaw hearts faster.
Place thawed chicken hearts in the medium size bowl. Add chopped onions and soy sauce. Add dry seasoning and stir. Cover with plastic wrap and move to the fridge to marinate.
Take hearts out of the fridge and place in the air fryer. Cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 7 minutes. During cooking time shake the basket once or twice. Hearts will be ready when fork tender and very soft.
Chop some fresh green onions for crunch and serve as is or with your favorite sides.
Recipe tips and tricks
- Do not overcook chicken hearts in air fryer. The may become dry and tough. See, there is a difference when you are air fry or sauteing hearts. In air fryer hearts are cooked without any liquid so they will start getting dry after cooked. When sauteing or baking, hearts will only get more tender over time.
- Add more seasoning to taste. You can add chopped cilantro or parsley to the dish, or some cumin if you like to.
- Use air fryer paper liners to prevent chopped onions from falling through the air fryer basket tray to the air fryer basket bottom.

Serving suggestion
Serve this dish over rice or with mashed potatoes. I don't mind to snack on these air fryer chicken hearts during the day or as an appetizer. My kids like to eat it with ketchup. YOu can also enjoy it with a bowl of a garden salad.
Also thinly slice some scallions on top, it will add nice crunch and beautiful color to the dish
Leftovers
If you have any leftovers, store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. Make sure to keep hearts in the air tight container. In some cases you can put them in the bowl and cover with foil or a flat plate. It will be just fine.
You can also freeze air fried chicken hearts. Make sure that you have a freezer safe container or a plastic bag. It will be great to use a double bag to prevent freezer burn. Store in the freezer for up to 3-4 months. You can totally store it for longer if you are sure that the package is sealed well.

Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken hearts
- Ā½ onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Ā½ lemon or lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Mix chicken hearts, chopped onions, soy sauce, salt and lemon juice in a medium size bowl. Let marinate for 10-20 minutes.
- Plcae the mixture in the air fryer and cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 minutes. Shake couple time during cooking.
- Serve with more lemon and optionaly chopped green onions on top.
