Expert tips
- Make Instant pot frozen Italian sausage and potatoes. Since frozen sausages are cooked in 20 minutes, use small potatoes with the skin on. Chopped large potatoes may become mushy during the cooking time. Just place them in water and put sausages right on top. No need to use a trivet.
- Run the tray under the warm water for 1 minute if sausages are stuck to the plastic.
- Use brats, bratwurst, chicken or beef sausage in this recipe. The cooking time will remain the same.
- For an additional flavor use beer instead of water.
- You can cook more than one package at the same time in the pressure cooker. If cooking with potatoes, separate sausages with potatoes so they don't stick. You can also use foil to separate layers of sausages. Water amount will remain the same.
- Trivet is not necessary. I don't like when the sausage gets too greasy so i like to use a trivet. It helps sausages to drip extra fat into the water. If you prefer otherwise, don't use a trivet at all in this Instant pot frozen sausage recipe.
Side dishes
As i mentioned before you can cook potatoes right in the same pot. Or you can add cabbage or sauerkraut and also cook it together at the same time. If non of this options feel right to you, prepare the side dish separately. Try to add sliced bell peppers and onions to the pot as well. Delicious!
White or brown rice will be good with sausage. Add drippings to the bowl and mix it up with rice. Make mashed potatoes and gravy and slice Italian sausage right on top.
Serve sausage on the bun with condiments, baked beans and sauerkraut. Kids would love this!
I really love to add chopped green onions to almost every savory meal i cook. It adds a nice crunch, lovely bright color and opens up the flavor of the meat! Additionally add chopped cilantro on top, it also adds nice flavor to every dish.

This is the best way to make sausages. I used to make them on top of the stove and the stove and pans would be a mess. Not only do the sausages taste fantastic, but now I don't have a huge clean-up. Thank you for the tips.
