Baked Italian turkey steaks are a great main dish to make for the holidays if you are cooking for a smaller crowd or just want to make a healthy turkey dinner during the week. Turkey steaks are a more affordable and lighter version of beef steaks and can be served in a similar way as chicken breasts or pork tenderloins. A good source of lean protein, they are a great switch up from making beef or chicken for dinner.

Balsamic dressing. A flavorful, tangy, and bold dressing that makes these baked turkey steaks amazing.
Garlic salt. Adds a subtle garlic flavor while seasoning the turkey steaks.
Dried thyme. A nice herb used frequently in Italian recipes.

How to make baked turkey steaks
If your turkey steaks are frozen, thaw them first. Leave them in the fridge overnight or just on the counter for a few hours. They should defrosted as fast as chicken breast.
This recipe if very easy and will require just few steps. Pour some balsamic dressing (or any other favorite Italian dressing) in to the bowl. Separate steaks and dip each on in to the dressing. Place steaks to the baking dish.
Sprinkle spices on top and cube the butter and lay on top of turkey steaks. Now, make sure that the oven is nice and hot and place the baking dish right in it to cook. Baked turkey steaks should take no longer that 20 minutes to cook to perfection.
Start checking the internal temperature at about 15 minutes into the baking. It should be at least at 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not overcook or turkey will become very dry and chewy.
What is a turkey steak
Turkey steaks are boneless turkey breasts cut into thick steaks. They resemble chicken breast fillets, and have a similar taste and texture, but are larger with less fat. These steaks are always boneless and thinner than a whole turkey breast, which makes them so they are much easier to cook, but still have amazing flavor.

One of the most common cooking methods is pan-frying, but you could also bake, air fry, or even BBQ them.
Another common preparation method is to cook them with a marinade or sauce. This cut of meat tends to be a little dry, so this is a great way to infuse even more flavor into the meat. In this Italian turkey steaks recipe, I used balsamic dressing to not only give flavor but to help keep these turkey steaks moist and juicy.
Where to buy
In the United States, turkey is most commonly available during the holidays - around October to December. So look for these pre-cut steaks around this time.
If it's not the holidays, try looking for them in your local butcher shops, or high-quality online meat delivery services. These places usually have a wider selection of meats than your local grocery stores at similar prices.
If you can't find pre-cut steaks, you can make your own! Use a sharp knife and carefully cut whole turkey breasts into thick steaks, then follow the recipe like usual!

You can cook turkey steaks from frozen but it is not recommended. The meat tends to be dry and lacks flavor. If you have frozen turkey steaks I highly recommend thawing them first either overnight in the fridge or in a bowl of cold water until they aren't icy anymore.
