Using only 5 easy fridge and pantry staple ingredients that you probably already have, you can make this recipe whenever you want and feel good about serving this better-for-you dessert to your family.
Recipe ingredients
Milk. Combined with heavy cream to provide the perfect creamy ice cream consistency.
Heavy cream. Gives enough fat so that the ice cream is rich and smooth.
Brown sugar. Adds a hint of caramel sweetness.
Cocoa powder. Use good quality cocoa powder. This is what's giving your ice cream most of its rich chocolate flavor.
Nutella. Adds a nutty and chocolatey flavor to this easy chocolate ice cream recipe.
How to make Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream
In this recipe i used only high quality ingredients, because its the key to the creamiest and most delicious chocolate ice cream. Use the best cocoa powder you can find.
Start with adding all of your ingredients to the blender. Pour wet ingredients first and then add dry. It will prevent cocoa powder from sticking to the walls of your blender. Its essential to blend all the ingredients before freezing, they need to be mixed together very well to create an even texture in your ice cream.
I added milk and heavy cream first. You can use half and half instead. Than add brown or regular white sugar and cocoa powder. And last, add your chocolate hazelnut paste. I used Nutella but any other chocolate paste will work.
Now blend until smooth. Pour the mixture in to your prepared Ninja Creami pint. It should fill it right to the MAX FILL button. Cover with the lid. Place the pint in the freezer on an even surface for about 24 hours or longer.
Once the waiting time is over, you can install the pint into your Ninja Creami. Push the ice cream button and watch the magic happen! If ice cream will come out crumbly (it not suppose to), just add a splash of cream and RE-SPIN.
Ninja Creami makes a delicious super creami chocolate ice cream and i hope you will like my recipe and enjoy your treat!
Why use this machine
I love using the Ninja Creami Ice cream machine to make homemade ice cream because there isn't any whipping or churning involved. You can simply combine all the ingredients together and then freeze for 24 hours. At the press of a button, the powerful blades of the machine shave the frozen ice cream base and turn it into a creamy pint of ice cream.
Would you like to save this?
It takes only a few minutes to combine all the ingredients together and then pop it into the freezer. You can add whatever mixins you like and because this recipe is so easy, you can make it with your kids.
Substitutions
Use your favorite milk, both dairy and non-dairy milk can be used in this recipe. Oat milk is my favorite substitute for dairy milk.
Nutella. If you are nut free or just want to increase the chocolate flavor, you could use your favorite chocolate sauce instead.
Heavy cream. Use coconut cream if you are dairy free.
Brown sugar. In place of brown sugar, use cane sugar, coconut sugar, or regular refined sugar. You could also add 1 teaspoon of molasses to white sugar to create your own brown sugar.
Variations
Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the ice cream base. It helps to bring out the flavor of cocoa powder better giving it a richer flavor.
Serve with your favorite ice cream toppings. Whipped cream, sprinkles, maraschino cherries, or nuts.
Add your favorite mixins. There's a button on the Ninja Creami for mixins. After you've blended the ice cream base add chocolate chunks or chips, sprinkles, chopped nuts, crumbled cookies, or your favorite candy pieces.
Add 1 tablespoon of softened cream cheese to this recipe if you want an even more rich and creamy chocolate ice cream. Make sure to either soften it slightly in the microwave or allow it to soften at room temperature so it can fully mix with the other ingredients, otherwise, you will have lumpy ice cream.
If you want to make a dairy-free Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream, use unsweetened oat milk, and coconut cream instead of dairy milk and heavy cream.
Frequently asked questions
Homemade ice cream can turn out crumbly if you didn't add enough fat to the ice cream base. The combination of milk and heavy cream provides enough fat to result in a rich but smooth Ninja Creami ice cream.
Sometimes after the first spin, your ice cream might look a little crumbly, this is perfectly normal. To fix it just re-spin it again with a tablespoon of milk to get the perfect soft-serve texture.
Leftovers
You can double the recipe and pour the mixture in to two pint size containers. Use one in 24 hours and keep another one for later use.
If you have any Ninja Creami chocolate ice cream leftovers, just smooth the ice cream on top as much as possible, place the lid on the jar and place it in the freezer.
Before enjoying it again, just let sit on the counter for 3-5 minutes to thaw for a bit. You can re-spin it if you feel like it needs it. I always re-spin for a better, creamier texture!
