Incredibly easy dump and start chuck pot roast in Ninja Foodi recipe. Tender fall apart meat and aromatic root vegetables covered in rich beef broth, what could be better?
My favorite pressure cooker recipe. Why wait for hours for that perfectly tender pot roast on the stove or the oven? Ninja foodi will make the job done in an hour.
How do you cook a chuck roast in Ninja Foodi
This recipe is a perfect example of a dump and start recipe that needs minimum of preparation.
- Browning. Browning the meat is completely optional. It adds extra flavor but also take some time. In this recipe i browned the meat right in the Ninja Foodi pot on saute setting for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Seasoning. Seasoning is essential. You can use your favorite blend of spices or follow my directions. I added salt, black pepper, lots of garlic powder, some ketchup and spicy chili paste. The pot roast will not be spicy at all, the paste will just add more flavor.
- Pressure cooking. Now add water or broth and pressure cook the roast. 60 minutes will be enough for a 3 lb chuck roast, add 20 minutes more for any additional pound. If you want to cook potatoes whole, add them now. Slice carrots in big pieces and also add to the pot.
- Vegetables. If you cut potatoes in chunk and have baby carrots or small sliced carrots on hand, let the 3 lb pot roast cook for 40 minutes, then Quick release the pressure, add veggies and cook again for 20 minutes.
What do i love about this recipe
The best part is just how easy is it to make! A perfect dump and start recipe that is made in less ten an hour.
Would you like to save this?
The dish is very inexpensive too. Root vegetables and meat are pretty affordable!
Another great part is that you can use any pressure cooker to make this recipe. Of course Instant Pot will be great for this chuck pot roast too!
Why chuck roast
When you are buying a chuck roast you are getting the most value for the money. The roast becomes so tender when cooked low and slow or quick under pressure like in this recipe. Another great cut of beef for pot roast is round top roast. It has less marbling but still very good and tender when cooked properly.
Is this recipe keto
This recipe can be keto or low carb if you take away potatoes and carrots. Instead, add more onions and celery. Try to add radishes, its a perfect substitute for potatoes.

Chuck pot roast in Ninja Foodi
Incredibly easy dump and start chuck pot roast in Ninja Foodi recipe. Tender fall apart meat and aromatic root vegetables covered in rich beef broth, what could be better?
Ingredients
- 3 lb beef chuck roast
- 6-8 golden potatoes
- 2 big carrots
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 tablespoon spicy chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups of water
- 3 teaspoon beef bullionĀ
- 1 teaspoon oil
Instructions
- Turn on saute button. Add some oil and chuck roast in to preheated inner pot. Brown for about 5 minutes on each side.
- Add other ingredients and close and lock the lid. Cook for 60 minutes on HIGH PRESSURE. After its done, let pressure release naturally for about 10 minutes and than quick release.
Notes
- Cook all the veggies at the same time with the meat only if the potatoes are whole or cut in big pieces and if you like kind of mushy consistency. If not, cook beef for 40 minutes and then add veggies and cook for another 20 minutes.
- If you choose to thicken the gravy, try this:
Take all the meat and veggies out and set aside. Turn the Ninja foodi to SAUTE. Make a slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of cold water.

So we're not cooking it on the pressure cooking setting? It's still on the Saute/Sear setting right?

Sear first, then pressure cook
Mack
I think first sear then pressure cook on high

Iām cooking this right now so I hope you or someone can answer. If not no worries. Iāll figure it out. š The veges are being cut up and not left whole. Do I need to quick release or do a slow release at the recommended time, and then build up pressure and cook the remaining time?
Thank you!
Wanda
Tanya
Hi Wanda! Thanks for the question. Quick release the pressure, add vegetables and cook for another 20 minutes. Than natural release for 5-10 minutes and than quick release. If potatoes are cut in large chunks you can naturally release pressure for a little longer.
Carly
Great recipe! Weāre having trouble getting used to our Ninja Foodi - Had a 2.3 lb roast and cooked it for 50 minutes, but it was still well done.
Liz
My mom just got a Ninja foodi so I'm going to send her this idea! Thanks for sharing!
Sharon

I cook most everything in the foodi pressure cooker and this recipe is the only way I will ever make pot roast from now on. Our all time favorite thing to pressure cook in the foodi is beef short ribs! We are on our second Ninja foodi.
Tatiana
Awesome! Ninja Foodi is great!
Beth
This is comfort food at it's finest! Can't wait to try it!
Melissa
Can you cook this from frozen?
Tanya
Yes you can. For 2 pound roast set pressure to 85 minutes, and a 3 pound roast would be set to about 95
Noelle
will this be on the pressure cook setting or the roast/bake setting?
Tanya

What is āspicy chili sauceā? Is it just like Heinz Chili Sauce or another brand/kind?
Thanks for the great recipe, canāt wait to try it.
Tanya
Hi, i used huy fong sauce. Any spicy sauce will work
Theresa
I'm trying this recipe now but was wondering, does it stay on the sear/saute seeing the entire time?
Tanya
Hello, thank you for your question. The pot roast is cooked under the high pressure for 60 minutes.
And continue for 20 more minutes. The quick release still took about 15 minutes and then to get it back up to pressure after adding the vegetables out another 10 minutes plus another 20 to cookBrion
Great
Only issue I had was I went to do the quick release so I could vegetables And continue for 20 more minutes. The quick release still took about 15 minutes and then to get it back up to pressure after adding the vegetables out another 10 minutes plus another 20 to cook
Vickie
If I am doing two 3 pound roasts in the pressure cooker do I need to adjust time? My cook book was a little confusing on that.
Lee
Take out half of your roast put in another pan add 1/2 a cup of broth get out your mixer put in only one beater and shred roast for burritos, or bbq sandwiches itās great
Melissa
Can you make mashed potatoes after they cook in the pot with the meat?
Carolyn Morell
i just brought a roast beff and it weights 8lbs and 14 how long do i have to cook it in my ninja foodi pressure cooker
Tatiana
I would double the cooking time and also cut the roast in about 4 pieces before cooking.
Kassandra
How long for a roast just under 2 lbs?
Thanks š
Tatiana
40 minutes should be fine, thanks for your question!
al ermitage
So the 4C of water, bullion, and spices all go in after the saute/browning correct? Is the basket used or not? Can minced garlic be swapped in instead of powdered garlic? Thaks in advance.
al ermitage
So all the water (4C-?) and spices go in after the saute, correct? Then the veggies at the 40 min. mark. I am seeing some places that say pressure cook 20-30 mins per pound. Can someone clarify?
Ellie
I have made this twice now and itās delicious! I always add more potatoes and substituted beef broth with the water.. but my, oh my. Really tasty
Nancy Edwards
can I pressure cook for 30 minutes then slow cook on low for 4 hours
