You won't believe how easy it is to cook pre smoked turkey wings in the oven... The wings have all the meaty tastiness you crave, but take a fraction of the time to prepare with very little effort. Conveniently prepackaged turkey wings are already cooked. We oven roast them low and slow to really enhance the tender and juicy meat!
This recipe includes fresh tomatoes and onions, plus a handful of classic spices like paprika, onion powder, and thyme. Place all ingredients in one pan, cover, and pop in the oven! Then step back and bake for two hours. The turkey wings are a delightful cross between a smoked sausage and super hearty chicken wing.
These wings are rustic, meaty, and amazingly flavorful. Perfect for a comforting and casual meal any night of the week!
Ingredients
Turkey wings. Pre smoked and packaged fully cooked.
Garlic cloves. Mince finely to bring out the oil and delicious aroma.
Onion powder. Adds a savory and almost sweet taste.
Thyme. Earthy and strong, a perfect spice for poultry.
Paprika. The bright, savory, and smoky flavor brings all of the other ingredients together.
Red pepper flakes. Gives the wings a bit of spiciness. Feel free to omit if you do not like any heat.
Onion. Choose a white onion for tangy bite. Yellow sweet onions are more mild.
Tomatoes. Large, firm yet slightly soft tomatoes are the most flavorful.
Butter. I recommend unsalted butter. Then you can adjust the seasoning to taste.
How to cook pre smoker turkey wings in the oven
Before cooking its important to remember that smoked wings are already very high in sodium. That's why there is no need to add any more salt to the dish.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lay baking dish with heavy duty foil. Slice onions and tomatoes, not too thin. Lay them on the bottom of the baking dish. Place smoked turkey wings on top.
Cover with spices, garlic, liquid smoke and hot sauce. Add butter. Tightly cover with more foil and slow roast in the oven for 2 hours.

Another way of making the same dish is to individually wrap each portion. The process is the same, just add onions and tomatoes to a smaller piece of foil (i used double foil to prevent leaks).
Add turkey on top and all the seasoning. Add butter if using. Wrap tightly and place on the baking dish. Cook as directed in the recipe card.
Serve with rice, mashed potatoes or grits. Or really with whatever you like!
Variations
- Use whatever spices you like! This recipe uses a classic combination of onion powder, thyme, and paprika. However, other blends like Cajun, lemon pepper, and Italian seasonings are also great.
- Add a dash of liquid smoke for an even deeper smoky taste.
- We also suggest you kick things up and add hot sauce for spicy wings!
Why cook pre smoked turkey wings
Smoking a turkey takes about 30-40 minutes per pound. Therefore 2-3 lbs wings alone require about 2 hours. Not to mention any time necessary to brine.
You have to tend the smoker and turn the wings throughout the process. Plus, smoking wings can be a bit tricky as there is less temperature control... too little or too much heat can result in chewy or dry meat.
Pre smoked turkey, however, has already been cooked just right. (And to proper food safe temperature!) So taking the extra steps to bake in the oven is just an easy way to make the turkey fall-off-the-bone tender.
