Ninja Speedi green beans are tender, snappy, and super flavorful! In this easy recipe the fresh beans are first lightly steamed before quickly sautéing with butter and garlic - all in the same one pot! Serve these delicious and nutritious veggies as a versatile side with your favorite comfort food dishes.

When it comes to a satisfying home cooked dinner, "side dish" does not - or should not - mean "afterthought." Because while a main protein might be the star, the sides are really what make the entire meal shine! These Ninja Speedi green beans are a surefire dish to bring everything - and everyone - together at the table.

This easy 5-ingredient recipe starts with a quick 10 minute Steam. Then switch to the Saute function using the same pot, and add butter and garlic. In no time the green beans are fork-tender and brimming with savory, buttery and irresistibly delicious flavors!

The steamed and sauteed butter and garlic green beans are great to pair with all kinds of main dishes. They are a particularly delicious way to add a (somewhat) nutritional boost of fresh vegetable goodness to cozy and comforting American food dinners.

But for how quick and easy this recipe is to make, you'll definitely want to keep it on hand to make a no-fuss veggie side dish for nearly any meal!

    Recipe ingredients

Green beans. Washed and ends trimmed, and either left whole or snapped in half.

Butter. Your choice of salted or unsalted butter. I personally like to use unsalted butter, so then you have more precise control over how much total salt is added to the dish.

Garlic. Peel and smash each clove before finely mincing. This helps to release the most fragrant oils from the garlic.

Water. For steaming green beans in the Ninja Speedi. I suggest using quality filtered water for the best taste.

Salt and pepper. These two spice rack staples are must-haves for savory cooking. Use sparingly to elevate the green beans without overwhelming their yummy veggie flavor.

    Recipe variations

    • For a more savory dish, consider using chicken or veggie broth instead of just water to steam the green beans.
    • Use dairy-free plant-based butter to make this a vegan side dish recipe.
    • Add other spices and seasonings like lemon pepper, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, spicy cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.
    • Squirt on some fresh lemon juice after sautéing the beans in butter and garlic. The citrus adds a nice POP of bright, lightly sweet and tangy flavor.
    • Finish the Ninja Speedi green beans with a sprinkling of shredded or grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

    Serving suggestions

Snappy, savory and bright green beans are the perfect veggie side dish for all of your favorite comfort food meals!

Pair them with classic meat and potato dishes like steak and baked potatoes, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, or pot roast with potatoes and carrots.

Steamed green beans are also delicious with other proteins too, of course! Enjoy them with roasted, baked, fried or sautéed chicken, turkey, pork, or seafood... Or really, with just about any type of meat prepared however you like!

    Frequently asked questions

Is Ninja Foodi and Ninja Speedi the same thing?

These handy appliances are similar, but no, they are not the same. A Ninja Foodi combines a pressure cooker, air fryer, slow cooker, and steamer - just to name a few of its capabilities.

The Ninja Speedi does not have the pressure cooker function and is a slightly smaller device.

Is steaming green beans better than boiling?

Steaming is almost always considered the best cooking method for vegetables. This method makes the green beans very tender but still crisp, versus boiling which can quickly overcook the beans. Also, veggies retain more nutrients when they are steamed compared to boiled.

Can I make this recipe with frozen green beans?

Yes, you can cook frozen green beans in the Ninja Speedi! Do not thaw them first. Simply add 2 minutes to the Steam cook time noted in the recipe card below.
