Crockpot chicken Francese is a an incredible meal that can be cooked in the slow cooker in just 3 hours! Gently brown it on the stove first and than finish in the pot with flavorful butter wine sauce! Perfect meal for a family dinner or lunch. Just add some white rice, roasted potatoes or a green salad and enjoy!
How to cook crockpot chicken Francese
Get a chicken breast, but first thaw it if its frozen. You can leave it on the counter for a few hours or thaw it overnight in the fridge. This is preferred method since it allows chicken to stay more juicy during cooking.
Slice breast in half lengthwise. Whisk eggs in one bowl and prepare a flour mixture with dry spices in another. I mixed flour with paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. I really love this combination, not too strong but flavorful and fragrant (from garlic).
Coat chicken breast pieces in flour mixture first and than place them in the bowl with beaten eggs. Work with one breast half at a time. Bread all the chicken pieces and place them in to a heated skillet with oil.
Cook over medium heat for 1-2 minutes on each side. Do not cook them all the way through, just brown them for some color. Now, place seared breaded chicken breasts in to your slow cooker. You can use any crock pot size, my slow cooker has a 8 qt ceramic pot.
Add broth, a splash of white wine, butter and sliced whole lemon. Add more lemons for more intense lemony flavor. Close the lid and cook for 3 hours on LOW. Once cooked open the lid and add chopped green onions on top. Enjoy your delicious crock pot chicken Francese for dinner!
What is chicken Francese
Chicken Francese is an Italian-American dish made out of breaded in eggs and flour chicken breast (or other parts). It is cooked in delicious butter-wine sauce usually on the skillet or sometimes cooked in the oven. In this post we are making slow cooker chicken francese that will take longer time to prepare but is equally delicious.
Recipe ingredients
- Chicken breast. If the breast is too big i recommend slicing it in half lengthwise.
- Vegetable oil. Olive or avocado oils are my favorite. Oil is used to fry chicken in the skillet before slow cooking it.
- Flour. All purpose flour will work best.
- Salt and pepper. Basic seasoning and a kitchen staple.
- Chicken broth. The bouillon is used as a part of the lemon butter wine sauce to thin in.
- Eggs. Eggs are needed for breading chicken. I used pasture raised eggs from my local farm but of course any eggs will work.
- Paprika and garlic powder. Essentials for seasoning the chicken. Paprika also adds some nice red color.
- White wine. Added to the sauce. Use just a splash and do not go with the wine you don't like.
- Butter. Choose unsalted butter for this recipe. Used for the sauce.
- Lemon. Nice fresh citrus notes of lemon are essential for this crockpot chicken Francese recipe.

Expert tips
- Use only that wine that you will want to drink out of the glass.
- Do not overcook.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- Use unsalted butter (unless the broth you are using is unsalted).
- Add chopped green onions on top to serve for a crunch and vibrant color. Chopped cilantro or Italian parsley will work too (and smell amazing!)
- The internal temperature of cooked chicken is at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Use any size of slow cooker. My crockpot is 8 qt and it had lots of extra space. For 2 chicken breasts 6 qt slow cooker will be perfect. 4 qt might be too tight.
Side dishes
You can use almost any side dish with this recipe since chicken goes so well with everything! Try just a plain bowl of white rice, rice will soak up all the juices and will be extra delicious! Roasted potatoes, asparagus or zucchinis will be an awesome addition to this dish.
Make a classic healthy green or garden salad. Mix arugula, romaine or your favorite greens with sliced cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and onions. Mix olive oil and a touch of balsamic vinegar and drizzle it all over the salad!
