Each time i am so excited to make this recipe. Its inexpensive, super easy to make and you can modify it the way you want! Add mushrooms, rice or potatoes and make this recipe yours.
Basically beef tips are parts of sirloin or tenderloin. In stores the they sell it as a stew meat. If the pieces are too big, cut them in half for this recipe.
This recipe is not for a quick dinner. Beef needs to be cooked slow and on low.
How to cook beef tips and gravy
All you will need to make this recipe is a few ingredients and some time. 2 hours to be exact. If you truly want meat to be melt in your mouth tender.
- Beef is the star ingredient so use a high quality beef
- Onions are just as important. I had yellow onions , feel free to use white.
- Seasoning and sauces. Soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, some garlic powder or freshly chopped. salt and black pepper.

Slow cooker instructions
Here is two ways to make this recipe in your slow cooker, with browning the meat and without. If you have time, brown beef tips in the skillet, transfer to crockpot and then add the rest of ingredients. Cook om LOW for 7 hours. Not browning is also ok, i didn't notice any difference in flavor. Once the dish is done, just stir it and serve.
Instant Pot instructions
Turn on saute button. Brown beef tips right in the inner pot for about 5 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir. Close and lock the lid. Cook under pressure for 25 minutes and then let the pressure release naturally for at least 10 minutes. Open the lid and stir. Serve over your favorite side dish. Find more options below.
Side dishes
Beef tips and onion gravy dish is very good by its own, but if you are feeding the crowed a good side dish is a must! It could be starchy vegetables, grains or even fresh greens. Here are my favorite:

Easy beef tips and onion gravy
Ingredients
- 2 lb beef stew meat
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Ā½ onion
- 2 cups water
- Ā¼ cup soy sauce
- Ā¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 bay leave
Instructions
- Chop onions and saute in oil in the heavy bottom pot. Add meat and brown it for about 5 minutes.
- Add the rest of ingredients and stir.
- Bring to boil and then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 2 hours with lid on.
- Stir and serve.
Notes
Any other parts of beef will work for this recipe. You can use chuck roast or any kind of steak.
Best served over noodles or rice. We also like mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower.
