Wrapping chicken breasts with bacon not only adds a delightfully smoky flavor but it helps to keep the chicken extra juicy. Chicken breasts can easily become dry and overcooked, so the bacon is the key to avoiding overcooked meat by helping it retain more of its juices. Results in a flavorful, satisfying, and very juicy meal.
This recipe uses turkey bacon as a healthier choice instead of traditional pork bacon. Containing much less fat and calories, turkey bacon is a nice change from regular bacon, but it's still filled with an amazing smoky flavor that tastes so good with chicken.
Recipe ingredients
Ready in 30 minutes with just a few simple ingredients, bacon-wrapped chicken is a wonderfully tasty dinner that can be made in no time!
Chicken breasts. 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts. Use similar-sized ones to ensure they bake evenly.
Turkey bacon. Need a few slices per chicken breast to completely cover the chicken. Use a few toothpicks to hold it in place if needed.
Ground paprika. Gives a nice red color to the chicken and a subtle smoky flavor.
Onion powder. Adds a savory onion flavor that pairs well with chicken.
Minced garlic. Adds a wonderful fresh garlic aroma to this dish.
Salt and pepper. A little bit of each to balance out the rest of the flavors.
How to make turkey bacon wrapped chicken
For this recipe you will need two chicken breasts. There is no need to slice them into smaller pieces or in half. The recipe is based on two whole chicken breasts.
If the poultry is frozen defrost it first. Leave it overnight in the fridge or just simply defrost on the kitchen counter for couple hours.
Place chicken breasts on the cutting board. Season generously with paprika, black pepper and garlic powder. Sprinkle with just a touch of salt. We don’t add too much salt at this step because turkey bacon is already salty and we don’t want to overpower the chicken.
Tightly wrap chicken breasts in turkey bacon. The easiest way for me was to just lay a few bacon pieces on the cutting, slightly overlapping each other. I placed chicken on top of bacon and slowly wrapped it around.
Try to hide all the bacon ends underneath the chicken. Otherwise use toothpicks to secure them but it’s not recommended. Toothpicks will leave the holes in the chicken that will help the juices to escape from the meat during cooking.
Place turkey bacon wrapped chicken breast on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cook for about 25-30 minutes at 375 degrees.
If unsure that the chicken is done, check it’s internal temperature. It should be at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit for a fully cooked chicken breast. Do not overcook it though or it will become very dry and chewy.
If you like how maple syrup tastes on bacon you should also brush some on top right before baking.

Substitutions
Use chicken thighs. Wrap the turkey bacon around the thighs if you prefer thighs over chicken breast. Just make sure to cook them a little longer because bone-in meat cooks at a slower rate than boneless.
Use chicken tenders. This is the most tender and juiciest parts of the chicken. Tenders are excellent wrapped with turkey bacon.
Use a different type of bacon. Pork or even veggie bacon would work in this recipe as well.
Variations
Honey-mustard glaze. Brushing the turkey bacon with this glaze adds so much sweet and savory flavor to the chicken breasts.
Add brown sugar. Mix 1- 2 tablespoon of brown sugar to the spices before covering the chicken breasts with the seasonings. It will caramelize with the bacon as it cooks creating the perfect mix of sweet, smoky, and savory flavors.
Stuff with cheese or veggies. Before covering the chicken breasts with the seasonings, cut the chicken breast in half most of the way through, then stuff it with shredded cheddar cheese, spinach, or whatever you like!
Cook with tomatoes. Add a handful of cherry tomatoes to the pan to bake with the chicken breast. This variety of tomatoes are very sweet and juicy and will keep the chicken even more tender while creating a delicious pan sauce.
Frequently asked questions
Even if the chicken is fully cooked it may still have a pink tinge to it. The best way to determine if the chicken is completely cooked through is to use a meat thermometer. You are looking for an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you cut into the meat it should look completely opaque white.
Yes, turkey bacon-wrapped chicken can be cooked from frozen. It's a great way to meal prep lunch or dinner, and chicken breast and bacon both freeze very well. Just cook the chicken for a few minutes longer to make sure it's fully cooked before serving.
Not at all. These chicken breasts wrapped with turkey bacon are baked uncovered and will cook evenly without having to flip them.
Side dishes
Chicken goes well with all kind of side dishes, from simple white or brown rice to mashed potatoes or pasta.
Classic spinach or arugula salads with cherry tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and bell peppers will be fantastic with any kind of poultry. A bowl of cilantro or Spanish rice is a great filling choice too. Sweet potato fries, roasted zucchinis, corn on the cob, scalloped potatoes… the list is endless!
