Recipe ingredients
Flat iron steak. Look for 1-inch thick cuts with an even marbling of fat throughout.
Baby potatoes. Also known as new potatoes, these can be white or red.
Onion soup mix. Blend of dry spices including onion flakes and powder, celery seed, parsley, paprika, and pepper. Many varieties also include dry beef or vegetable bullion.
Chopped green onions. Adds a pop of fresh flavor to the meaty steak and potatoes.
Baby carrots. You can also use regular carrots and just peel them and cut in smaller pieces.
How to make flat iron steak in crock pot
Just as most slow cooker recipes this one has very easy instructions. Prepare the meat first. Thaw if needed in the fridge overnight or on the counter for a few hours. Rinse with cold water and add to the crock pot.
Wash baby potatoes and add to the meat. Add peeled carrots, i just added baby carrots. Open Lipton onion soup mix and pour on top of the vegetables. Now add 1 cup of water and that's pretty much it!
Close the lid and cook on LOW for 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 hours. Its important that potatoes are whole and not peeled, otherwise they will all fall apart in the slow cooker.

You certainly can! For this easy flat iron steak slow cooker recipe we combine all ingredients in the pot without precooking. The steak comes out beautifully tender and juicy without any fuss of searing first.
While they are similar cuts these two are very different steaks. Flank steak is leaner and comes from the belly of the cow. Flat iron steak, however, is cut from the shoulder area. It tends to have more marbling of fat and be a juicier steak.
Definitely! By cooking low and slow the meat becomes perfectly tenderized. It practically melts in your mouth!
Flat iron steak is economical, easy to cook, and tastes wonderful... I consider it a great steak!
Slow cooker recipes, like this winner, do not require marinating the meat beforehand. Because the steak cooks for hours on low heat, the meat is infused with flavor basically the same as it would be if marinated.
Oh yes, steak can overcook in a crock pot. If left too long the meat with become tough and chewy. Check the internal temperature on the low end of the recommended cooking time.
Keep a close eye on the steak, and when it hits 130 degrees turn off the crock. The meat will continue to cook as it sits and will quickly hit 145 to 155 degrees, which is considered medium and therefore safe to consume.

Store flat iron steak leftovers in the air tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

"....thaw on the counter for a few hours...." YES, by all means do this if you want to get sick. Food safety experts are strongly and universally against this.

it usually applies to big pieces of meat or a whole bird ( like whole turkey for Thanksgiving), when the outside is thawed but still frozen inside. When you defrost a small 1-2 lb piece it will be completely thawed in couple hours and will not have enough time to spoil. Just avoid leaving the meat out for extended periods. Hope it helps.
