If you own a Ninja Speedi, cooking crab becomes almost too easy. No giant pots, no boiling water splashing everywhere, and no guessing if the crab is done. The Speedi cooks crab gently but fast, keeping it juicy and sweet instead of rubbery.

I’ve tested a few methods, and steaming is hands-down the best way to cook crab in the Ninja Speedi. It works for dungeness crab, snow crab, king crab legs, and more.
What kind of crab works best
Most crab sold in stores is already cooked and frozen. That’s perfect for the Speedi — you’re really reheating and steaming, not cooking from raw.
This method works best for:
- Snow crab legs
- King crab legs
- Crab leg clusters
If your crab is frozen, you don’t need to thaw it first.

How to know when crab is ready
Crab is done when:
- It’s heated all the way through
- The meat pulls easily from the shell
- It smells sweet, not fishy
If it feels cold inside, steam for 1 more minute. That’s usually enough.
Can you use Speedi meals mode for crab?
Technically yes, but I don’t recommend it. Speedi Meals Mode is great for full meals with grains or veggies, but for crab, simple steam gives better texture. Speedi Meals can overcook delicate seafood.
Would you like to save this?
Stick with Steam Mode for best results.
Tips for perfect crab every time
- Don’t overcook — crab dries out fast
- Keep the lid closed while steaming
- Add lemon slices to the water for light flavor
- Serve immediately with melted butter
If you want extra flavor, brush the crab with melted butter and garlic after cooking, not before.

What to serve with crab
Crab is rich, so simple sides work best:
- Steamed corn
- Rice or quinoa
- Simple salad
- Roasted potatoes
I usually keep it very minimal and let the crab shine.
The Ninja Speedi is one of the easiest ways to cook crab without ruining it. No big pots, no stress, and no dry meat. Once you try it this way, you won’t go back to boiling.
If you cook crab even a few times a year, this method alone makes the Speedi worth it.
